Beautiful Sunday! As many other cities around the world Brussels celebrated the first International Yoga Day on 21 June (proclaimed by the United Nations last year) And it rocked. Over 2000 people on the mat practiced together with fresh air, nature and beautiful atmosphere forming together the Brussels Yoga Day. Without age limit, without focusing on experience level, everybody could join for a joyful, giant session surrounded by Bois de la Cambre forest. The weather, although not perfectly summerish, did not dissapoint. The rain was kept away. Those living in Belgium will know what I am talking about, as here you never know when the rain will arrive. But the atmosphere was excellent. Point.
Donna Farhi: “Yoga does not remove us from the reality or responsibilities of everyday life but rather places our feet firmly and resolutely in the practical ground of experience. We don’t transcend our lives; we return to the life we left behind in the hopes of something better.”
I enjoyed very much the main session focused on breathing, asanas and relaxation. It gave me the summer vibe feeling, seeing so many people, from the little ones to elderly, dressed mostly in white, challenging their bodies. As yoga despite the age or the level of practicing, it’s a challenge for everybody. And everybody was going for it today. After the main part, lots of coconut water and ice tea were served. The lucky ones could even get some massage, as the beautiful surrounding of Jeux d’ Hiver (usually providing rich night life) became a wellbeing spot. I think the organizers did a very good job! It was great way to spend Sunday. I wonder in which city I will celebrate it next year?
